Scope of Features

WoodWorks is a highly optimized shareware utility for fast and precise layout calculations of rectangular cutting lists. Key highlights include:

  • Minimize waste across sheet materials (wood, glass, steel, plastics, paper, cardboard).
  • Accurate grain direction control (fiber orientation along or across the board).
  • Use of existing offcuts: enter leftover sheets in the sheet list together with their available quantity – WoodWorks then gives them priority during optimization. There is no cross-project offcut management – which pieces you actually keep is your decision. In addition, at least one sheet type that every individual part fits on must be available in unlimited quantity.
  • Edge band management defined individually per side (not necessarily all the way around).
  • Optimized cut grouping (main rip cut direction customizable).
  • Label printing at the saw containing job ID, part descriptions, dimensions, and edging info.
  • Spreadsheet integration for importing cutting lists directly – recommended via the supplied LibreOffice templates, MS Excel™ is supported as well.
  • Export optimization layout results as XML files for external integration.
  • Print professional quotes directly in MS Word™ or LibreOffice.
No subscription fees: All licenses are one-time payments. You can perform as many layout runs as you like; each run is only constrained by the maximum quantity of parts in a single list according to your license tier.

System Requirements

WoodWorks is extremely lightweight and runs natively on almost all Windows operating systems:

  • PC running Windows 95, 98, Me, NT, 2000, XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 10, or Windows 11 (both 32-bit and 64-bit).
  • Very low CPU and RAM footprint – runs fast on legacy computer terminals in the workshop.
  • The optional spreadsheet import requires spreadsheet software – LibreOffice Calc (free) is recommended, Microsoft Excel or a comparable program works as well.
